"R.I.P. Florida's Largest"
cotton, mx dye, sequins, beads, pins, sand.
January 2008
This is a commemorative pin cushion I made in Allison Smith's political textiles class, "Fabric of Conscience." We were looking at commemorative textiles and war-time souvenirs (like the one pictured below) made by convalescent soldiers. With my pin cushion I commemorate the loss of "Florida's Largest," a gift shop and long time staple of the St. Augustine tourtist landscape that has recently been remodeled and turned into an import furniture store. I wanted to make a souvenir of souvenirs.
